I am a sociologist with a focus on the role of religion in contemporary societies.
My research explores how religious identities and practices shape, and are shaped by, social phenomena. I have conducted studies and fieldwork in several countries, which has helped me develop a comparative understanding of lived religion.
In April 2025, I completed my Dr. Phil. as part of the Transformative Religion International Research and Training Group, graduating summa cum laude. My doctoral research introduced a new way of conceptualising Muslimness through the theory of Epistemic Entanglements.
My Postdoc will be at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, supported by the Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship — a prestigious program that provides generous funding and professional development opportunities to outstanding researchers from around the world, fostering interdisciplinary exchange and academic excellence in Israel.
This homepage shares information about my research and publications for those interested in the study of religion and society.
Recently, I presented parts of my research at the Azrieli Fellowship Forum. Here is the video about Halal Dating: Transforming Tradition in the Age of Apps.
How do young Muslims navigate tradition and modern technology when it comes to intimacy and relationship formation? In this talk, Farah Hasan from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, explores the concept of “halal dating” and its impact on how young Muslims reinterpret Islamic traditions on intimacy as facilitated by Muslim-specific dating apps.
